How Does an Online Personal Trainer Work?

I shared a few weeks ago about what I learned from working with a personal trainer and how it improved my health and fitness overall. Since then, I have been getting questions left and right on "how does an online personal trainer actually work?" Well, today I am going to share with you my experience working with Coach Kelsey and the in's-and-out's of my workouts.

If you're considering working with a personal trainer, especially for people who are new to exercise or who have jam-packed schedules, an in-home personal trainer is the way to go. Here is what working with a personal trainer, like Coach Kelsey, looks like and the benefits of having someone bringing your workout to you.

So how does a virtual personal trainer work?

I'm sure everybody does it differently; however, this was my experience with Coach Kelsey. First, we met up for a call to chat about my goals. We talked everything, my daily rhythms, our eating habits, my short-term and long-term goals, and so much more. Then she gave me a recommended plan for eating such as when to eat carbs and what the best time to eat protein. From there, she went to work on my personal plan through TrainerFu.

TrainerFu is the easiest application to learn. It lives on your iPhone or Android device and keeps track of your measurements, weight, workout routines, and progress. It also allows you to chat personally with your trainer and ask for help when and where you need it. For each exercise that Coach Kelsey added to my workout routine, there was a simple quick video to show me exactly what I needed to be doing; this, right here, was amazing. I was able to verify I understood each activity I was supposed to be doing and what a "good form" looked like.

As I completed my workout, I was able to mark off each activity, monitor progress (my time, reps, etc.) if Kelsey asked me to, and then complete my workout as a whole. Man, did it feel good to mark complete each day that I worked out!! Plus either immediately or within a few hours, Coach Kelsey was hopping online asking how things felt, if the workouts were too hard or pushing my limits too much, how they felt, and how my recovery from the previous workouts that week had been. I also opted into the live feed community so that I could see others that were personally working with Kelsey and cheer them on as well!

Virtual personal training isn't for everyone, but it may be for you! I highly suggest it for anybody that is looking to jump back into a new workout routine, or somebody that is new to exercise!

A Bit More about Coach Kelsey


Coach Kelsey is the owner of Coach Kelsey fitness out of Plano, TX. As an athlete with more than 20 years of experience including a collegiate career competing in the heptathlon, she has diverse skillsets that cover just about any type of performance training. She is also a NASM Certified Personal Trainer with a Bachelor of Science degree in Interpersonal Communication giving her a depth of knowledge in fitness, anatomy and training as well as the skill to communicate effectively and support you through every step of your fitness journey. She does online and in-person personal training along with nutritional support to help you with your fitness and health goals.

Kelsey lives with her husband, Rafael, and is thankful to have such a supportive, encouraging, and loving man of the Lord. Together, they have two beautiful children, Nora and Lincoln. Beyond personal training, Kelsey is a full-time stay-at-home momma who loves spending the majority of her days hearing their giggles and watching them grow and learn.
