The Explorer Academy from National Geographic Kids Books

If you follow regularly, you know that I am a big fan of National Geographic Kids books because they have stories that light up our house with wonder and knowledge. From baby books to the ones I'm about to share with you today, they have stories for all ages and interests!

Thank you, National Geographic kids book and Explorer Academy, for sponsoring this post, The Explorer Academy from National Geographic Kids Books. I was selected for this opportunity by National Geographic kids book and Explorer Academy with collaboration of Moms Meet; the content and opinions expressed here are all my own.

As a previous middle school teacher, I appreciate well written stories for pre-teen and teenage years that have facts behind the fiction. So when I was introduced to the Explorer Academy series, which is a fact-based fiction series inspired by the real-life adventures of real National Geographic explorers, I knew I had to get my hands on it. Each book in the series integrates STEM (science, technology, engineering, math), geography, and other subjects into an action-packed storyline.

Ever since Ollie has entered preschool, he has came home eager to read chapter books at bedtime. We love incorporating reading into our nightly routine and I knew that these action-filled stories would be perfect for us to explore some fictional characters together while learning something new. Each night we have been reading through some intriguing codebreaking challenges, near-future technology, and a storyline that encourages observation, deductive reasoning, and problem solving.

My favorite part is when we hit to the end of each book with the “Truth Behind the Fiction” section that profiles real explorers and their work. It really allows Ollie and I to have a connection moment about our fictional story that we have been reading over the course of a week or so and taking it back to real-life examples. The books feature diverse kids and cultures from around the world, and teaches the value of friendship, family, loyalty, and trust.

So far we have been able to read through the first book in its entirety but I am excited to read through the other story lines. Knowing that this is a growing series is so fun because I know it will be a go-to chapter series for us for years to come! Another neat thing is that the book purchases help support the vital exploration, research, education, and conservation projects of the National Geographic Society. I also love supporting a good cause.
