Safely sleeping

Bringing home a newborn from the hospital can feel a bit scary in its own right. When we brought home our first, Ollie, all I can remember doing while he was sleeping was placing my finger under his nose every two seconds to make sure he was still breathing. Prior to bringing Lillie home, I thought I wouldn't be like that; however, even as a second time mom, I worry about Lillie's safety while asleep. I think with each new baby, all of the grunts and gasps and squeaks that a baby makes while they are sleeping is something that makes a new momma nervous. So when I was sent a new type of baby monitor from MonBaby, I was excited to try it out!

We had a breathing monitor with Ollie that honestly was our saving grace. It allowed us to transition Ollie into his own room and crib fairly early and gave us the ability to sleep with ease. With Lillie, we hadn't transitioned her just yet. I am not sure if I was more naive with Ollie, or just more nervous with our little girl, but whatever the case may be, I have been far more hesitant to transition her from her bassinet bedside to her own room. But it is time.

I know there are a lot of mommas out there that don't transition their kids this early, and that's totally okay! That's one of the things that I love about parenthood; we are all allowed to make our own decisions and support one another in them. For us, we just do not sleep with the grunts, gurgles, and gasps. It does not happen, and this family requires a lot of rest to keep our emotions and happiness in check. However, we hadn't dug out that old breathing monitor because it had a lot of false alarms. False alarms caused us to panic and the baby to wake. No good at all.

First of all, the MonBaby (a baby monitor in a smart button) has taken things a step further and detects far more than just breathing. The main feature is the rollover alert which helps a new parent follow the sleep recommendation guidelines given by the CDC (Centers for Disease Control) and the AAP (American Academy of Pediatrics) that babies should always sleep on their backs. When the baby rolls over, a notification is immediately sent to the parents smart phone so they can act fast and roll their baby back to the safe sleeping position. The monitor also detects proximity (for hospital care) and if your little one has fallen (when they get a bit older). I really like the the versatility of the unit so it can grow with a little one, and you can pick and choose which features you want to track.

It also is super easy to install. Once you clip the button safely on your child's pajamas or onesie, it is ready to go. The button is about the size of a half dollar, small yet safe and doesn't seem to irritate a baby at all. The MonBaby also doesn't require any accessories of any sorts, keeping things simple and easy to place on your child. Finally, the monitor itself is completely wireless. By being compact and portable, it still can give live updates direct to a phone or tablet while not requiring any additional accessories.

The device itself is fairly sensitive. I think this is good if you are definitely worried about your child's breathing. For us, we needed that peace of mind to help us transition Lillie into her room so we can get some more sleep at night. I am also excited that we won't just be using this monitor during the infant stage like most monitors constrict you to. You can use this button as your child grows, walks, moves or plays outside detecting if they fall as they learn to walk or if they wonder off too far from you (and your phone). I love it!

If you'd like to try out the MonBaby, use this "ihelpmoms" when you order your MonBaby baby monitor and get $30 off the retail price of $99! It has been such a blessing as we have started the process of transitioning our new addition to her own room and allowing us much more sleep!
