Best Portable Breast Pump with Motif Duo

As a working and pumping mom, one of the more inconvenient moments of trying to breastfeed out of the house was lugging my pump to and from my work meetings. Ladies, I am not saying that I am complaining. Honestly, working from home made breastfeeding a reality for me. It allowed me to pump much easier than most women in the workforce; however, when I had to travel to and from meetings that were out of state, my pump was a heavy addition to all of my extra luggage, and it was far from convenient or easy.

Yesterday, I shared how excited I was about my new breast pump backpack to help my travels while breastfeeding with our newest little one, Lillie. Today, I cannot wait to share with you the second discovery to help make this breastfeeding journey that much easier: my Motif Duo portable breast pump.

Last time around, I was using the Medela Pump in Style. I had the insurance supplied version that was at the time, the only pump worth investing in if you wanted to pump for any significant time; however, it was far from small or portable! It also made my makeshift pumping bag that I used for travel heavy, bulky, and awkward. I often wished it would just fit into my carry-on backpack and allow me to cut down on all of the bags I had to haul to and from the airport for my work meetings out of state.

So when I was sent the Motif Duo to try, I was curious to see if this pump was worth buying. It certainly seemed like a great concept – small, rechargeable, easy-to-carry-around, great for on-the-go, and so much more. But would the portable pump find a place in this mom's pumping bag? The simple answer is yes!

When I first cracked open the breast pump, I was shocked by the size of the pump itself. It was nearly the same size as my iPhone and weighs less than a pound! My first worry was "how is something this size going to compare to my old Medela?" Well, with an impressive max suction of 270 mmHg per Motif’s site, it outdoes the Medela Pump in Style's max suction of 250 mmHg so no worry there!

Highlights of the Motif Duo

  • Pump how you want with a single or double pumping option.
  • Memory feature: simply press the memory button to choose your preferred settings.
  • The Duo’s backlit LCD screen displays settings, saved sessions, battery life, and more.
  • 10 expression & 10 massage levels means you can change it up whenever you want!
  • A super lightweight (less than a pound) design allows you to take the Duo wherever you go.
  • Save battery life with the handy auto shut-off that turns the pump off after 30 minutes.
  • Keep motor & tubing clean: the Duo's closed system prevents contamination.
  • Charge on-the-go: rechargeable battery lasts 2.5 hours.
  • Discreet pumping, quiet motor: say goodbye to the loud hum of your old pump motor!
  • 3 settings: expression, massage, and memory.

Overall I am in love with this portable breast pump. Knowing that I have quite a few trips coming up post-maternity leave, this is definitely a no-brainer for my travels. It is super small, takes up little room in my Idaho Jones breast pump backpack, battery powered for on the go pumping, fairly quiet, and easy to use. I also was impressed with the actual suction power to grab my milk. It also has a great memory mode which is a great added benefit if you ask me. The more pump, you will quickly realize that your body will most likely follow the same patterns of letting down your milk. The beauty of memory mode is that you can record your pump settings and replay that session each time you pump. No more constantly changing the suction dial on your pump!

The bottomline is that, in my personal opinion, the Motif Duo is a great option for the breastfeeding mom that is looking for a portable, small breast pump solution. It works great on a battery, easy to travel with without adding so much extra luggage to and from the office, and does not sacrifice on pump strength. The size, pump strength, and technology in the setting options are all great reasons working moms or moms who want a portable pump should explore the Motif Duo as one of their top options.
