Terrie's Tee Shop

Welcome to the next post in my Shop Small for Christmas Series. We love Terrie’s Tee Shop! Terrie’s Tee Shop has not only adorable workout tanks, but also fun and trendy crop tops (for you none pregnant folks and tees)! The owner, Terrie, lives in the great state of Texas. She has always loved the cute designs that she sees on graphic tees everywhere and one day, she decided to adventure in the world of tee design on her own. Everything in her shop is designed and screen printed by her. And man, does she have some adorable designs!

I am currently loving these two tanks from her shop to workout in. They are super flowy (I sized up a bit for the pregnancy) so I can feel comfortable in them all day long while working from home to hopping over to the gym for a midday walk or stretch. They are really soft and I absolutely love the phrases on them.

My favorite is the “Don’t Eat Watermelon Seeds”. Honestly, I laughed so hard when I saw it… and laughed even harder when it took my husband, Dusty, a few solid hours to “get it”. It has been perfect to run around town in and have a lighter heart about this pregnancy.

Additionally, the “After This We’re Getting Tacos” should be my theme for every day. If I was able to choose, we would have some form of Mexican meal every day of the week. A non-pregnant “me” would choose margaritas and chips and gauc for any date night, and salsa is incorporated in many of my lunches as a staple.

Terrie’s Tee Shop is perfect to shop from for the girl that truly “has everything” but needs a good graphic tee or tank. Terrie has designs that are perfect for the workout junkie to the newly married. She also has some great beach vacation tanks that I am eyeing up for next summer.

As we wrap up closer to those last days to ship for this holiday season, Terrie’s Tee Shop is offering y’all a great 15% discount code to her shop through December 4th! Use the code ABODE10 at the checkout for your great savings! Also, go follow her over on Instagram for more tee design options for your feed!

What is the hardest part of owning a shop?
Balancing family life and work life. I work from home so its hard to stick to schedules.

When I set my mind on something, I get it done.

What is the best part of owning a shop?
I can work from home while still watching over my children.

How did you get your shop name?
Thinking, thinking, thinking.

What is one way that you keep organized?
I love using my smartphone, I can reply to customers from it, I can use it to take pictures of my products and post on social media.

How do you balance family life and work life?
I am not sure really, I just get stuff done.

FUNKtional Wearables

Guys, I am in love with my Fitbit. It has been a long road for me and wearables when it comes to my fitness, and if I am being honest with you, it took me a long time to get to where I am at. My journey started with the Jawbone UP! years and years ago; however, even though I loved it, a few months after their first generation release… Jawbone recalled the whole fleet of them.

At the time, my husband, myself, and a solid group of friends were still working at a big blue box known as Best Buy. We all had the Jawbone UP! and we all loved them. However, shortly after the recall, ours all stopped working bit by bit. Fitbit was still new to the wearable solution; can you even imagine that now? And so, we all patiently waited until the next release that Jawbone promised. Month later, Jawbone was still at the top of their game. Folks were loving their bluetooth devices for their ears and the quickly came out with another version of the UP! Sadly, a few months later, another recall occurred. Even so, I continued to wear mine for up to two more years until mine finally died and I was refunded.

Round three happened right before Ollie was born. I had used a few different women-focused wearable solutions, but still really wanted something that focused more on my sleep and had a great functioning app. The updated app and new design of the UP! was wonderful, great even. It helped me stay active in my pregnancy and justified my poor sleep in those last weeks of pregnancy. As Ollie was born though, I found that my wearable was snagging on this little newborn’s skin. I safety placed my wearable in a drawer and returned to it a few months later to find not only a dead-as-a-doornail device, but also a company that was nonexistent and looking like bankruptcy.

Flash forward to this past summer, and by happenstance, I realized that I had purchased a replacement plan on my UP! and quickly bounced back into Best Buy for a solution — a new wearable. I did all the research and ended up with a Fitbit Alta.

I love my Alta and everything that comes with it. It has been reliable, dependent, and even tells me the time and my incoming texts. So now that I have the “best new wearable” out there, I hit another dilemma… I want to wear my fitness tracker 24/7 but it doesn’t always look nice. It doesn’t always look presentable. And thankfully I discovered FUNKtional Wearables.

FUNKtional Wearables

FUNKtional Wearables offers a versatile and affordable line of jewelry with pieces for both men and women just for your fitness tracker. These high quality accessories offer an additional benefit as each has a special handmade compartment that securely conceals Fitbit Flex, Fitbit Charge, Fitbit Alta, Charge HR, Charge 2, Garmin Vivofit, Vivosmart, Vivosmart HR, Jawbone and so many more activity trackers. These compartments were designed by Cornell-educated ergonomics expert and master quilter, Christina Blais, and her niece, Cynthia, who was tired of losing her Fitbit Flex due to the wristband falling off. She also felt a little silly trying to cover up the wristband with bangles whenever she dressed up.

FUNKtional Wearables designs just the perfect solution for fashion to meet my fitness goals. No longer do I have to slip off my Fitbit when heading to a work party or holiday outing this season. I can continue to manage my steps and not worry about looking down and seeing a fitness tracker glaring at me! FUNKtional Wearables makes bangles, wraps, covers, and more just for you.

I have been so excited to shared with you some of my favorites out there. Additionally, they are offering you 20% off their entire store. Use the code “20OFF” at the checkout to get the extra savings for yourself or somebody on your shopping list this season.

Here is a little bit more about the owners of FUNKtional Wearables:

How did you get your shop started?
I have made jewelry as a hobby since I was a kid, and I finally put my first piece on Etsy in 2014.

What is the hardest part of owning a shop?
Not having a steady income. You never know when sales are going to go well, and when they are going to be slower.

What is one thing unique about you?
We dedicate a portion of sales to the Best Friends Animal Society. I am a huge animal lover and own 2 rescue dogs. I also foster dogs until they can get placed into a forever home.

What is the best part of owning a shop?
Making your own hours, and not having a boss.

What is one way that you keep organized?
Calendar! I put everything in my phone calendar and use it to keep myself and my business organized.

How do you balance family life and work life?
I make it a point to take every Sunday off, but it is definitely hard to maintain that balance!

Working from home, I am all about comfy clothing. I know there is a ton of research that says you should wake up every morning and put on work clothes regardless of your working arrangements to keep you productive and active throughout the day. Honestly, this does not work for me. I like the idea of it, but the days that I put on my jeans, or even glance at a more formal attire, and then sit in my home office, I am uncomfortable and antsy the rest of the day. Do not get me wrong. I wake up and shower every morning before I even manage to drink my first cup of coffee; however, post-shower, I slip into a fresh pair of yoga pants as I am checking my first round of emails and hopping on my first conference call.

I also have noticed that the days that I put on my workout gear, I am 1000 times more likely to make it to the gym or complete that in-home workout. With this upcoming pregnancy, I am not only about comfort but something that I will feel pretty in to head to the gym, Starbucks, Target, and beyond. I also need something that looks fashionable for my video calls. I can definitely yoga pants all year around, but I want to make sure I am not frumpy on top for those chats.

That being said, I was ecstatic when I got the opportunity to try out some of prAna‘s new fall styles. prAna is a brand made for the adventurers and explorers of the world, which totally sounds like our lives. They strive for folks that lead active and sustainable lifestyles and hope to achieve the goal of providing items that you can put on in the morning and confidently wear all day long. Their clothes are versatile, stylish, and sustainable and they provide accessories that you can wear during every activity, every adventure, and every day.

I have chatted about how much sourcing your clothes are important before. It can make such a big impact to invest in sustainable clothing like prAna provides. It’s pretty inspiring that prAna maintains the integrity of its products by sustainably sourcing all the materials and being fair trade.

Deedra Sweater Tunic

The first thing I thought of when I saw this beautiful chunky sweater was sweater weather! I refuse to turn the heat and air conditioner off and on during the fall months. Being in the midwest, we could easily have the heat blasting in the morning with the air conditioning pumping at full force by the afternoon. It is something that really did not become an issue until I started working from home. I need something to throw on those chilly morning that would be comfortable to wear all day long.

The Deedra Sweater Tunic is so soft and warm! I think it’ll be the perfect cozy pullover to keep on hand for the entire winter when my house turns into Antarctica or those days when I head to the gym in a tank top but need something to keep me warm until I pop into the heated room full of treadmills. It is mid-weight knit which basically just means warm, but not too heavy, as it is woven from an organic cotton blend. It has a good sized v-neck to pull over my top knot that I live in in the winter time and dropped hem tail to cover my booty in my leggings. I also love the side vents as it will continue to grow with my pregnant belly without me having to worry about it stretching!

prAna Clothing

Caraway Tight

As you probably know by now, I am all about yoga pants of any shape and size. I really like how you can either pair them with fall and winter boots or throw on some tennis shoes and look stylish either way. So when I saw the option to try out these Caraway Tights, I was so happy to add them to my fall fitness wardrobe!

Theses performance tights have moisture wicking properties and are high-rise compression pants. I am still able to fit into them 17 weeks pregnant and they are super warm. As I get bigger throughout my pregnancy, I will be able to fold down the waistband a bit, and then reuse the high-rise part as we head into post-delivery recovery. The pants are also designed with a flat lock construction and a triangle gusset for added durability, complete with the wide waistband and hidden mesh pocket.

Even though I am a short gal, the length was pretty right compared to most pants. I have a bit of length at the bottom that I will be able to easily tuck into a boot or ensure my ankles are covered during a workout.

prAna Clothing

I am looking so forward to this season of pregnancy and working out. I am excited that these two pieces from prAna are going to keep me comfortable and warm. They are suitable for workouts and perfect for my work-from-home position. Like many other popular, high-quality active lifestyle brands, prAna is on the pricier side and, admittedly, my first thought was “this would be out of my price range”; however, I realized that the pricing is largely due to the that they are sustainably sourced material, and this is super important to me. I believe that the fair treatment and pay of those involved in the production process allows us all to make a difference in others lives. I like to keep in my mind that there seems like little we can do one a day to day to help make the world a better place. Choosing to invest in a few pieces I know will last rather than many that may not is worth it the ripple effect of others.

So, I really recommend you check prAna out! Now’s a great time because you can save 15% on you prAna purchases using this code:

Defeating Human Trafficking with PACT ORGANIC

I received this product for free from Moms Meet (momsmeet.com), May Media Group LLC, who received it directly from the manufacturer. As a Moms Meet blogger, I agree to use this product and post my honest opinion on my blog. The opinions posted are my own.

Defeating Human Trafficking with PACT ORGANIC

Do you ever really think about where your clothing comes from? I remember sitting at a Christian conference in my early college years learning about human trafficking and was appalled. I could not believe that human trafficking was real. As I learn more about the truth and sad reality of our world, I wanted to do something about it.

Flash forward ten years, and I am still a huge human trafficking advocate. I believe that human trafficking will not be stopped without intentional decision making by normal individual like us and without more awareness of the issue. So when I discovered PACT ORGANIC clothing, I was so excited to try out what they had to offer.

At PACT ORGANIC, they are committed to organic cotton to minimize our impact on the environment and improve the conditions and quality of life for the people who make our clothing. PACT ORGANIC unites the collective vision of organic cotton farming, responsible manufacturing, sustainable and ethical certifications, and values-based shopping. They also believe organic cotton is the foundation for addressing labor and environmental challenges that surround clothing. How great is that mission?

Defeating Human Trafficking with PACT ORGANIC

I also learn that PACT ORGANIC is in the business of changing things. Did you know that conventional cotton uses about 16% of the world’s insecticides and 7% of pesticides? In addition, the World Bank estimates that around 20% of industrial water pollution in the world comes from the treatment and dyeing of textiles? Not to mention the issues around forced labor, child labor, and factory collapses… which I already mention.

As I may have said before, working from home allows me to wear whatever I want on a daily basis… so typically, you can find me in some good pair of leggings and a tee. PACT ORGANIC makes everything that you could desire for my attire. I received a pair of long leggings, a racerback bra, shelf bra camisole, crew socks, classic fit bikini underwear, a light weight hoodie, and men’s boxer briefs all to try and oh my goodness! They feel amazing and fit great.

All of my PACT ORGANIC clothing are super soft and are made with organic cotton that gives me just enough stretch for the perfect fit. The best part is that the organic cotton doesn’t pollute the soil or air and uses 71% less water and 62% less energy than conventional cotton. Growing organic cotton keeps farmers and their families safe because they are not exposed to toxic chemicals. Additionally, all of their products are sweatshop-free… meaning no human trafficking! Their clothing feels great and are easy on the environment while they are made. How perfect!

So are you ready to try them out for yourself? Learn more about them on their website, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Right now they are offering you 25% off your entire order! Use the code Adobe25 by August 31, 2017 to try out PACT ORGANIC yourself!!

3 Essentials for a Fit Pregnancy

3 Essentials for a Fit Pregnancy

When I found out I was pregnant, I wanted to make sure that I had the healthiest pregnancy possible. I was no means a rock star when it came to staying on top of my goals; however, I do think that I managed to make it through my entire pregnancy healthy and made sure anything I did was in moderation.

Through my first trimester, I learn a lot about listening to my body, not skipping meals (which I’m really bad at doing), and keeping active. It truly is hard as your body changes, you are tired, and you are sore in all new places. Growing a healthy baby is obviously important, but it is also hard not to give into the American message that being pregnant means you can eat whatever, whenever. My major go-to treat was chocolate ice cream cones from Dairy Queen; however, I still limited myself (so I would not end up there daily) and managed to “treat” myself when I felt like it was necessary (which sometimes felt like it should be every day). At the end of my pregnancy, a nightly walk through the neighborhood seemed like a daunting chore, but I stuck through it and love that I was able to continue through my entire 40 weeks healthy.

There are three major things that kept me going through my pregnancy that helped me stay fit. I cannot wait to be cleared for normal activity again now that Ollie is here, but until then, I wanted to share these items with you!

1. CamelBak Eddy Water Bottle

Your water intake is an important part of your life, regardless of a pregnancy or not. However, it is super important during your pregnancy. There is a very clear difference in my daily water intake from the days that I have my CamelBak by my side and those days that I do not. I have this thing by my side at all times and it really helped me stay on track during my pregnancy. Keeping hydrated also helped me feel better about myself, more alert, and more likely to be active in general.

2. Great Maternity Active Wear

I am not sure I would have gotten through my pregnancy with some great active tops. I found all of my tops from Old Navy on clearance in the fall and I am still rocking them post-birth! They are so soft, flowy, and worked great when nothing else fit! I also love them now because they are not tight on my stomach and are easy to nurse in this summer.

I also lived in my Fabletics Salar Capris up until my last month of pregnancy. I could not believe how long they fit me while my belly grew! If you have not tried Fabletics active gear yet, you should definitely try them out! They are the best material, super soft and high quality. You also can try your first outfit for only $25! Not only does this get you an entire workout outfit, but it also gives you VIP member access with exclusive access to sales, discounts, and special deals!

3. BaoBei Belly Sport Band

I had sciatic nerve pain since the very beginning of my pregnancy. Simply walking sometimes was a huge pain, especially at the beginning. I wasn’t really prepared for this so early! I found BaoBei Belly Sport Band on Instagram through a Tone It Up gal who loved hers. The more I read about it, I knew I had to get one. It is designed for both pregnancy support and post-pregnancy care. This band supports the abdominals, take pressure off the low back, and eases many common discomforts of pregnancy including sciatic pain. I was nervous that I would not use it much, but I ended up wearing this band almost every day regardless if I was active or not. It grew with me and helped me carry the weight of my belly towards the end of my pregnancy. I also wore it for the first week I was home from the hospital as my belly shrunk a bit each day. It was perfect to help keep my stomach in places where it should be instead of sagging down.

Do you have any pregnancy fitness secrets or tips??

Bella Beat LEAF Fitness Jewelry

Duston and I make lots of attempts to be healthy throughout our lives. From diet to exercise, we allow each other a lot of grace and a lot of support. Grace is definitely needed through all of this as the months get colder and closer to the holidays. We stay in bed in the mornings instead of going to the gym. We eat cookies to “test” for the holidays. The line in between healthy and the holidays get a bit blurred.

I am so excited this year to take such a pro-active approach this year with my new Bella Beat! The Bella Beat LEAF is something that I have been eyeing for months now. It is beautiful, easy to use, and such a great addition to my life.

Tick tock! The clock is ticking here at Bellabeat - with every tick, we get closer to the launch of the third batch of the LEAF, with every tock, you get closer to finally owning the world's smartest piece of jewelry! It's a matter of days before we open a new round of orders for the LEAF - get on our waiting list now and don't miss the news! Join it now on bellabeat.com

Bella Beat is an activity tracker that is designed specifically for women! I have used a handful of activity trackers in my life and have never seen anything like my LEAF. It’s a wearable fitness tracker, like many are; however, the options of wearing it are endless.

Out of the box, it can directly clip onto my sports bra or shirt as a pennant. It also has the options to wear as a beautiful necklace or a bracelet as well! I cannot believe how many compliments I receive on the necklace alone when I wear it out. Then my friends get even more excited when I tell them that it is an activity tracker.

Accessories are always a touch of pretty, but with the LEAF, you also get a touch of smart to go with the pretty :) #bellabeat #wearables #jewelry #health #tracker bellabeat.com

Because Bella Beat LEAF is made with for women specifically, the tracking side of the wearable speaks to my heart. It tracks so many great things.

I feel like everyone leads a stressful and busy life. With my LEAF and my LEAF app, I am able to spend some time each day on breathing exercises that allows me to take control of stressful situations. There are goals that I can set for each day to help keep me on track.

I always feel like I do not get enough sleep. With Bella Beat LEAF, I can track my sleep patterns, reveal the quantity and quality of my sleep, and use this to adjust bedtimes or caffeine happens in my life.

Since working from home, my activity level throughout my day has decreased significantly! My LEAF tracks every movement throughout my day and lets me know when I need to increase my activity. I also set an alarm to vibrate after an hour of stillness. It’s super helpful to to keep me moving throughout the day.

Monthly Cycles
I love being able to track my monthly cycles inside the same app of all of my other health stuff. From ovulation, premenstrual, and period days, I can now see this right along side my activity, sleep, and stress patterns. Also, inside the app, you can add pregnancies as well!

Smart Alarm
Like I mentioned early, there are smart alarms that you can add through the Bella Beat LEAF app to help you stay on track to your goals. Beyond the InActivity Alarm, there is a Wake Up Alarm, Important Event Alarm, and a Pill Reminder as well!

In addition to all of the awesome features, my LEAF syncs to my phone wireless. It comes with six month battery life, and a 14 day memory. If you want to know more about LEAF or are interested in joining the LEAF community, head on over to their website!
