Shop Small :: CinderEllie Designs

Thank you, Cinder Ellie Designs, for sponsoring this post, part of the 2017 Shop Small Spring series. I was selected for this opportunity by Cinder Ellie Designs; the content and opinions expressed here are all my own.

CinderEllie Designs

It has officially been one week since we have returned home from Disney. Life hits us, of course, the moment we got back. Ollie has gone from baby steps to running, literally. We had our anniversary to celebrate as well as Mother’s Day. And our refrigerator went out! I know life is full of ups and downs but this week we were just full!

Thankfully, I have a ton of Disney things still on my mind to keep the magic in the air. One is our final shop in our Shop Small Spring series, CinderEllie Designs. Her flowy tank was just perfect for our waterpark day at Typhoon Lagoon! I absolutely adore it. The color is something that I don’t have a lot of so I keep finding myself grabbing it from my closet as a top that’s a bit different than my normal routine. I love the glitter print as well!

If you are heading down to Disney, use the code “springfling17” for 20% off at her shop through the end of the month! Also, head on over to our Instagram page today for a special giveaway with her and Ellie ‘n Ollie, our new magically inspired tee shop!

Here is a little bit more about Ashly, the owner of Cinder Ellie Designs:

How did you get your shop started?
After leaving the classroom in January 2016, I found myself a little flustered. I’m a creative person, and my house was always cluttered with projects that I couldn’t wait to start. I am truly blessed with a patient man for a husband because he is always supportive and must have known I NEEDED a creative outlet. I started making my daughter shirts with the machine I had once used to make bulletin boards and activities for my students.

In August, my former student and babysitter asked me if I had thought about selling shirts. I laughed at her and asked her what she wanted me to make her. I made her a few shirts, and her comment sparked my interest into researching the possibility of opening my own shop. It was kind of a snowball effect of me making things for her and her family which turned into more requests from more people. I quickly needed a way for my friends and family to easily reimburse me for the things I made. At the end of the month, I jokingly created an Etsy page.

In September 2016, I launched my Facebook page and uploaded a few designs to my shop. I feel incredibly blessed to have done so well in such a short amount of time. CinderEllie Designs has been an incredible creative outlet while also helping me stick to our budget (most of the time) and helping out with a little income.

What is the hardest part of owning a shop?
The hardest part of owning a shop is the fact that I want everyone I reply to via message on Etsy to be absolutely ecstatic about their experience with CinderEllie Designs–regardless of if they order a product from me or not.

I have said yes to rush orders I probably should have said no to because I empathize with my fellow procrastinators. My husband gets asked countless times each week for approval of each order I ship out. We once spent 30 minutes on a shirt that had an odd layout- scrutinizing it to ensure it was absolutely centered. I just want to make sure everyone has a great experience with CinderEllie Designs, and the perfectionist side of me comes out in full force with each order.

What is one thing unique about you?
I am great at making little-bitty pieces of paper. That was actually what my dad warned my husband about before we got married. Since I was little, I have always loved crafting. With crafting comes messes. And tiny pieces of paper. I got in trouble in Kindergarten because I thought the grass we were cutting out of construction paper for a picture we were making would look better cut a different way. I stayed in from recess that day. Give me a pair of scissors and a hot glue gun, and I can conquer the world.

What is the best part of owning a shop?
The absolute best part of owning CinderEllie Designs is making someone’s event even more special. I have helped announce pregnancies, celebrate birthdays, and coordinate outfits for magical vacations. I love that I am a part of so many happy milestones in complete stranger’s lives. That probably makes me weird. Or creepy. But it’s true. I also love that CinderEllie Designs gives me a creative outlet, and I have complete ownership of what I do in my small business.

How did you get your shop name?
My daughter’s name is Ellie. When we are being silly, I’ve always called her CinderEllie. Her favorite Disney princess was Cinderella for a time, and she went through a period where she would hide her left shoes (only her left shoes). When I opened the Etsy shop, I knew most of my designs would be inspired by her loves and interests. I immediately knew CinderEllie Designs would be my Etsy shops name for this reason. She’s a strong-willed, spunky little girl. Could there be better inspiration?

What is one way that you keep organized?
Organization something I am still working on. Like I said, I literally opened this shop almost as a joke. I have envelopes for each month of the year. I also use Etsy to keep my current orders organized. My husband is also amazing at creating spreadsheets, so he helps me keep up with inventory and numbers.

How do you balance family life and work life?
Sometimes I completely fail at the balancing act, but I try to keep designated days/nights for CinderEllie Designs. I also have pulled many late nights so I didn’t miss out on anything in Ellie or my husband’s life. Other times they go on Daddy-Daughter dates so I can focus on getting orders out. I travel for work part-time, so I’ve had to get a lot better at using the Google Calendar app on my phone to keep track of where I’ll be each day and what days I will be fulfilling orders. I also recently moved my workspace to a room that is not directly attached to my house. Having a designated, separate space for home and CinderEllie Designs has helped with my family/work/CinderEllie Designs balancing act immensely.

Animal Kingdom Photo Shoot with Cherry Blossoms by KC

Thank you, Cherry Blossoms by KC, for sponsoring this post, part of the 2017 Shop Small Spring series. I was selected for this opportunity by Cherry Blossoms by KC; the content and opinions expressed here are all my own.

Cherry Blossoms by KC

We are still enjoying the Florida sun this week at Disney! It has been just a perfect glorious week! We spent Monday at one of our favorite parks, Animal Kingdom. Did you know how perfect Animal Kingdom is for a photo shoot?! We took so many pictures!! I personally love mini-photo shoots at Disney but I typically think of Magic Kingdom for these types of things. Not anymore! Animal Kingdom is starting to become one of my favorite parks and this is just another reason why!

I will do a complete list of all of my favorite places to take photos on property soon… but until then I am loving my 101 Dalmatians mouse ears from Cherry Blossoms by KC! They were the perfect “animal” ears for a day at Animal Kingdom without going all safari on everyone — not that anything is wrong with that either. The ears are made out of white with black spot fabric. The headband is hand covered with black ribbon and the center is adorned with a red sequin bow. They are so lightweight and great for a full day at the parks! They also stayed in place on my head on all of the rides. I did take them off for Expedition Everest, but I would hold on to all of my valuables on this ride regardless!

If you are heading down to Disney or have a little one who just loves puppies (I’m thinking puppy-themed birthdays as well!), use the code “BAHORICHABODE” for 10% off at her shop! Also, head on over to our Instagram page today for a special giveaway with her and Ellie ‘n Ollie, our new magically inspired tee shop!

Here is a little bit more about Kristen, the owner of Cherry Blossoms by KC:

How did you get your shop started?
It all started with a trip to Disney World in November 2016, where my best friend and I had created several pairs of ears for our trip. We had so many cast members and other people from around the parks asking about our ears and even had a guy try and buy a pair I was wearing one day. Once we came back from our trip I had multiple people asking me to make ears for their next trip to Disney. With all the interest people were showing in the ears, I decided why not create an Etsy shop. On February 2017, I opened my shop and have been loving every second of it.

What is the hardest part of owning a shop?
I would have to say trying to do to much. Since I am a new shop and love to craft, I have so many ideas of different ears that I want to make and sometimes I put to much on myself at one time. My husband is great at helping me stay on track so I don’t get to overwhelmed.

What is one thing unique about you?
Well, when I say that I’m a Disney nut, I am not just saying that. I have been going to the parks since I was born, my parent’s honeymoon was there, I got married at the Polynesian and have been a pass holder since 2004. Disney is in my veins and I want to help create everlasting memories for my customers.

What is the best part of owning a shop?
Being able to create something that can make someone, whether older or younger, have an even more magical trip to Disney. I have so many memories of going to the parks and to help someone else have wonderful memories is such an amazing thing for a Disney nut like me.

How did you get your shop name?
Well, I didn’t want to limit my shop to only Disney products so I wanted a name that was unique and said something about me. I am a lover of nature and beauty and the Cherry Blossom tree is so beautiful and so my name was created.

What is one way that you keep organized?
My favorite organization tool in my craft room is my pegboard my husband made for me. Everything is right there in arms reach from my scissors to my thread and glue.

How do you balance family life and work life?
It’s not an easy thing to do sometimes but I have a great family that is understanding. I try and not make any ears on the weekends and leave that time for the family. I also try and fill all my orders while my step daughters are at school and my husband is at work. It doesn’t always work out that way but I do my best to always have my family come first.

A Birthday Celebration with Princess Powers

Thank you, Princess Powers, for sponsoring this post, part of the 2017 Shop Small Spring series. I was selected for this opportunity by Princess Powers; the content and opinions expressed here are all my own.

Princess Powers

As I mentioned yesterday, we are living the dream in Disney this week! We are staying at Animal Kingdom Lodge for the first time and I am loving every minute of it. So far we have explored so many great shops at Disney Springs, headed over to Typhoon Lagoon for my 31st birthday and then ended the evening at Boma!

My birthday was just darn perfect. We didn’t really get to celebrate a big 30th birthday for me last year as we were super pregnant with our little Ollie, so here we are solo parents kidless for the week for my 31st! If you have never been able to check out Animal Kingdom Lodge or Boma, you are definitely missing out! I will have a complete review of both super soon.

But until then, let’s talk about this super adorable mouse ear shop — Princess Powers. I just loved wearing her ears for my birthday celebration dinner! It was so perfect. Her ears are a bit different than others, more lightweight and floral gorgeousness (is that a word?)! I absolutely knew that her Jasmine Wire ears would work best for me because I wear so much darn aqua colored clothing! I was slightly concerned about packing these in my suitcase, but good news! They travelled so well and held up great even in checked luggage!

If you are traveling to the parks soon, or just need something to make your day feel extra special, I would definitely check out Princess Powers! Also, head on over to our Instagram page today for a special giveaway with her and Ellie ‘n Ollie, our new magically inspired tee shop!

Princess Powers

Here is a little bit more about Jen, the owner of Princess Powers:

How did you get your shop started?
I started my shop after wanting a pair of lightweight, floral ears to wear to the park. I thought I wanted to wear a Rapunzel pair, but after making them I changed my mind and decided to Disneybound as Cinderella and ended up making her too. Eventually, my girlfriends saw them and thought they were so cute so I made a lot of the iconic princesses to share with them. Once I realized I had a lot of extra flowers, I made an Etsy shop to get rid of all the leftover supplies in my house. They became more popular than I could have imagined, so I decided to continue making them.

What is the hardest part of owning a shop?
Everything involving inventory has been the most difficult part for me. I always under or overestimate the amount of different flowers I need, so a lot of times I’ll have a certain princess-inspired pair of ears that will be out of stock until I am able to get the needed flowers.

What is one thing unique about you?
I am a licensed educator, but I currently work in the education department at a zoo and I absolutely love it! I’m trained to handle exotic mammals and reptiles.

What is the best part of owning a shop?
I love seeing people love and wear my creations! It’s so crazy to me that someone chose my ears to wear on their trip to Disney!

How did you get your shop name?
A lot of people wonder why our shop name is ‘Princess Powers’. Well, here’s the answer: Since I was young I always wished I was a princess. After all, I grew up watching all the fairytales in the form of movies and dreamed about beautiful gowns, castles, and of course, Prince Charming. But as I’ve gotten older, I’ve realized that all of those things are not what being a princess is all about. Being a princess means standing up for what you believe in, and it means having courage, while also showing kindness even when things don’t seem to be fair. Therefore, ‘Princess Powers’ means nothing more than having the abilities to be a princess in real, everyday life and using those abilities to make the world a little bit better.

What is one way that you keep organized?
My husband bought me these bins from Home Depot (I’m pretty sure they’re for tools–haha!) to keep all of the flowers, headbands, ribbon, etc… organized! They have been a lifesaver. Also, I keep a planner book and write down when orders are due to be made, shipped, and delivered.

How do you balance family life and work life?
Has anyone figured out this answer yet? …. 🙂 When you do, let me know!

Shop Small :: Mouse Apparel

Thank you, Mouse Apparel, for sponsoring this post, part of the 2017 Shop Small Spring series. I was selected for this opportunity by Mouse Apparel; the content and opinions expressed here are all my own.

Mouse Apparel

Goodness gracious and all of the magic feels! We are hanging out at Disney this week and let me tell you… We are loving it! We left our little man at home and are enjoying some great adult Disney time!! As I prepped for this Disney trip, I managed to find some amazing small shops that I cannot wait to share with you this week!

First thing’s first, let’s talk about the awesomeness of the small shop, Mouse Apparel! Her tees are incredibly magical and I honestly could not choose… so of course, I went with my gut and eyed up a perfect Dole Whip lovers tank.

We love Dole Whip around here and honestly, I cannot believe it took me all these years to discover its magic. I have only been a Dole Whip lover for a few years, and considering all of my years of loving Disney — I’m not sure why it took me so long!

So check out Mouse Apparel for your next trip! I’m loving her newest design, “Happy with a 100% Chance of Disney,” tee. It’s a little play off a weather forecast, and the weather is always good in both California and Florida. How cute!! And use the code “BAHORICHANDMOUSE” for free shipping on all orders until 5/31/2017. Yes please…

Also, a side note that I’ll talk more about later… but we opened our own magically inspired tee shop yesterday! Head on over to our Instagram account for a giveaway opportunity for your own shirts from Mouse Apparel and our shop, Ellie ‘n Ollie!! Hurry, it’s only for 48 hours!!

Here is a little bit more about Adrienne, the owner of Mouse Apparel:

How did you get your shop started?
My husband and I have always had the entrepreneurial spirit. In 2015, both of us were working corporate jobs, caring for our first baby, and trying to keep it all together. We needed a business I could do from home, that we were passionate about, and that would afford us the time for me to be home with our daughter.

Like a light bulb, one morning John said, “What are the two things Adrienne knows best… Disney and Christmas!” and the idea to create shirts inspired from the parks and movies I’d always loved was born. It seemed so simple, how did we not think of this before?!

Immediately we went to work on researching how to start a home based t-shirt shop, and though no path to success is smooth, every challenge we faced was only a speed bump in our path to reach those goals. Now I work on Mouse Apparel full time and spend every day with our little girl! We may be a little shop, but the time I have with her is more valuable than the work I did in the corporate world.

What is the hardest part of owning a shop?
It’s all on YOU. You manage every aspect of the business; from customer service, production, accounting, investing in equipment and technology, marketing, promotions, everything! There is freedom in asking a boss what to do when you’re in a new or uncertain situation, but when YOU’RE the boss, you have to rely on your research, advice from those you trust, and your gut. But I’ve found as long as you ask, “What is the right thing to do for my shoppers,” those answers come easy.

What is one thing unique about you?
One thing that is unique about me is I still haven’t grown up. I will always be a Disney kid and believe in magic. I cry during World of Color and Fireworks shows, skip through the streets of New Orleans square, and will always have room for a Dole Whip. Being at Disney reminds me of all the good spirit people have within them.

What is the best part of owning a shop?
My FAVORITE part is the positive response from my shoppers. Seeing photos, reading great reviews, and knowing something I created helped make their Disney memories even better is so fulfilling. It’s what makes creating a business inspired by your passion so worthwhile. Also, my husband and I are a phenomenal team, in both work and parenting, so working with him has been one of the best parts too.

How did you get your shop name?
This one is pretty simple 🙂 Apparel was necessary so everyone knows we sell clothing. Mouse was a nod to the big guy… Mickey!

What is one way that you keep organized?
Lists, lists, and more lists. This helps me sleep better and I feel accomplished when I complete a to-do list (which motivates me into wanting to create more accomplishments!)

Goal setting is so important to organization. You can’t reach your finish line until you hang it up! So no matter what I’m working on (a daily schedule, or a monthly prep meeting for the shop) I always have a written goal to reach.

How do you balance family life and work life?
I am a stickler for schedules – especially my toddler’s. She sleeps at the same times every day, so I get right to work as soon as she is down. Having a home based business allows me the freedom to work whenever so I get most of my work done after she goes to bed. We plan on having another baby, so I’ll have to revisit this answer when I’m managing two nap schedules!

When you own your own business or any creative passion, you never turn it off. We are always thinking of new designs, or where we’ll take this shop next. For us, that balance works, because even though we are always talking about the shop, we do so while spending time with our daughter.

Shop Small :: Shark’s Bites of Life

Thank you, Shark’s Bites of Life, for sponsoring this post, part of the 2017 Shop Small Spring series. I was selected for this opportunity by Shark’s Bites of Life; the content and opinions expressed here are all my own.

Working from home allows me to be a bit more flexible in my daily style. I have not put on dress pants since my interview and my normal looks more like yoga pants and a tank top than anything. I hop off to Starbucks to grind out some work and sometimes envy the girls in their cute tops and snazzy attire; however, if we are being honest, I love my casual dress code.

My typical day has me doing morning emails in bed once the house is quiet and everybody is gone. I find the shower an hour or so later and then just stare at my closet thinking… I could put jeans on today, but if I do, I’m definitely not going to the gym. So I opt for my favorite style of Fabletics pants and a workout tank or graphic tee, and sometimes make it to the gym.

My absolute new favorite tank is this one by Shark’s Bites of Life. It is absolutely perfect as it is made of the softest material, my favorite color, and screams my life moto — Vitamin Sea is All I Need. Okay, maybe not my life moto, but it reminds me of the Florida sunshine that then makes me think about Disney and honestly… Florida sunshine with a bit of Disney is really all I need.

Shark’s Bites of Life creates fashionable high quality apparel for men and women’s active lifestyles. Owner, Theresa, lives a very active, healthy lifestyle — something that our family believes is super important. Additionally, she believes in a high fat, low carb diet (again, exactly what we try to do every day!). I felt like supporting her shop was just a match for us. I love wearing her shirt out and abut because of how cute the design is and how it just matches my daily attire.

Her shop is perfect as for the active mom or mommy friend when thinking about gifts for Mother’s Day, or an active teenager for their graduation. She has the cutest designs! Here are a few that I am eyeing up!! I may be slightly obsessed. Use the code “ABODE20” for 20% off your purchase of $25 or more. Hurry — it expires at the end of May!!

Here is a little bit more about Theresa, the owner of Shark’s Bites of Life:

How did you get your shop started?
Ever since I was a kid I always dreamed of owning my own clothing line, I would draw out cute ideas for apparel that I would like to wear. After working at a few graphic design jobs for stationary and advertising I knew, I had to find a way to make my longtime dream come true designing apparel.

What is the hardest part of owning a shop?
Hardest thing about owning a shop is managing every single aspect of a small business owner. You spread yourself thin in marketing, sales, designing, bookkeeping, customer service and then also printing the apparel and managing inventory. (It can be really overwhelming at times)

What is one thing unique about you?
One thing unique to me is that I not only design all of my items but I also print them. This makes me extra picky with quality control and overall designs.

What is the best part of owning a shop?
Best part of owning your own shop is making whatever you want to wear! I love being able to create a new shirt on the fly and having a whole new wardrobe 😉

How did you get your shop name?
My nick name is Shark. It goes back to an old college story and my then boyfriend, now husband. He started calling me shark and everything followed. Then when I went to make a blog (before I started my shirt business) I wanted something cleaver. So I used play on words SHARK (that’s me) BITES OF LIFE (bits and pieces of my life that I’d share with people). When I started designing shirts I liked that blog name so much I transferred it over!

What is one way that you keep organized?
To do lists keep me organized, and a crazy photographic memory!

How do you balance family life and work life?
I used to be really bad at putting down my phone at night. Anytime I’d hear it go off I’d have to respond right away because I like to be very communicative with people who ask questions in my shop. But I realized that wasn’t helping me recuperate from the day and that I needed to turn it off at 7:00 pm and answer questions the following morning. Having that “dead zone” time helps 1:1 time with my hubby and allows me to fully recharge for a productive morning!

Defeating Human Trafficking with PACT ORGANIC

I received this product for free from Moms Meet (momsmeet.com), May Media Group LLC, who received it directly from the manufacturer. As a Moms Meet blogger, I agree to use this product and post my honest opinion on my blog. The opinions posted are my own.

Defeating Human Trafficking with PACT ORGANIC

Do you ever really think about where your clothing comes from? I remember sitting at a Christian conference in my early college years learning about human trafficking and was appalled. I could not believe that human trafficking was real. As I learn more about the truth and sad reality of our world, I wanted to do something about it.

Flash forward ten years, and I am still a huge human trafficking advocate. I believe that human trafficking will not be stopped without intentional decision making by normal individual like us and without more awareness of the issue. So when I discovered PACT ORGANIC clothing, I was so excited to try out what they had to offer.

At PACT ORGANIC, they are committed to organic cotton to minimize our impact on the environment and improve the conditions and quality of life for the people who make our clothing. PACT ORGANIC unites the collective vision of organic cotton farming, responsible manufacturing, sustainable and ethical certifications, and values-based shopping. They also believe organic cotton is the foundation for addressing labor and environmental challenges that surround clothing. How great is that mission?

Defeating Human Trafficking with PACT ORGANIC

I also learn that PACT ORGANIC is in the business of changing things. Did you know that conventional cotton uses about 16% of the world’s insecticides and 7% of pesticides? In addition, the World Bank estimates that around 20% of industrial water pollution in the world comes from the treatment and dyeing of textiles? Not to mention the issues around forced labor, child labor, and factory collapses… which I already mention.

As I may have said before, working from home allows me to wear whatever I want on a daily basis… so typically, you can find me in some good pair of leggings and a tee. PACT ORGANIC makes everything that you could desire for my attire. I received a pair of long leggings, a racerback bra, shelf bra camisole, crew socks, classic fit bikini underwear, a light weight hoodie, and men’s boxer briefs all to try and oh my goodness! They feel amazing and fit great.

All of my PACT ORGANIC clothing are super soft and are made with organic cotton that gives me just enough stretch for the perfect fit. The best part is that the organic cotton doesn’t pollute the soil or air and uses 71% less water and 62% less energy than conventional cotton. Growing organic cotton keeps farmers and their families safe because they are not exposed to toxic chemicals. Additionally, all of their products are sweatshop-free… meaning no human trafficking! Their clothing feels great and are easy on the environment while they are made. How perfect!

So are you ready to try them out for yourself? Learn more about them on their website, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Right now they are offering you 25% off your entire order! Use the code Adobe25 by August 31, 2017 to try out PACT ORGANIC yourself!!

When I think about small shops, I just adore stories like these. Shop owner of Rustic Grace Co, Kristin, recently was left by her husband after 10 years of marriage with her 3 children. Now she’s a single momma and her family and her faith is what keeps her together. She loves Disney, and Jesus, and has such a positive outlook on life… and keeps moving forward.

So when I had a chance to partner with her (and help her launch her brand new website!), I could not resist. Her designs are adorable ranging from mom life to Disney to faith based tees and tanks. She has such a variety of styles for women and kiddos as well as decals for items like Yetis and your car!

My tee, Spirit Lead Me where My Trust is without Borders, highlights one of my favorite songs. I just love Hillsong United and their music just calms my soul during a bad day (or even a good day). Even though it is a bit of an older song debuting in 2013, I am still in love with the lyrics and the meaning behind it.

The best part of her site is she is offering my readers a very special code to launch with her site! Go to her site today and get your Mother’s Day, Graduation, and summer birthday presents purchase! Use the code “BAHORICHABODE” and get 10% off!!

Here is a little bit more about Kristin, the owner of Rustic Grace Co:

How did you get your shop started?
I started my shop by originially building wooden stands and making signs to hang on them for your front porch which I will be getting back into:) I branch off of those to just wood signs with vinyl sayings. But all the sayings and quotes so resonated with me and I was like “I want to wear this quote!” So thats what led me taking it to shirts. I love creating new designs with popular designs but with some faith based scriptures, mom sayings, kid sayings and of course, my character vacation shirts which I love.

What is the hardest part of owning a shop?
The hardest part of owning a shop would be that I have 3 kids, ages 2, 4, and 7, and I am a single mom. When some days the orders come rolling in, I get so excited and then it never fails a kid gets sick or there is a gymnastics practice or something I need to do but I also need to work.

What is one thing unique about you?
I would say something that is unique about me is that since becoming a single mom recently (2 months ago) my relationship with God has completely changed and has become much deeper. I am understanding this single mom life that is a very difficult road for a lot of women. So I am looking into starting a single mom life shirt line to empower single moms!

What is the best part of owning a shop?
The best part of owning a shop is the confidence it gives me to know that my customers love what they receive. They are so sweet and tell me how much it meant to them or how great customer service they received. Sometimes as a mom you feel like you are just not enough and this truly gives me the boost to know my customers are HAPPY!

How did you get your shop name?
Rustic Grace took a few weeks to decide on but once I put the two words together I knew that was it! I am a country girl who loves Jesus. So I had Rustic showing my country roots and Grace because I am so blessed by the overwhelming grace that I am given each day by the Lord.

What is one way that you keep organized?
My tubs keep me organized I have my shirts divided up into tons of tubs but I can go to the tub of the shirt style I am looking for and find the size and Voila there it is!

How do you balance family life and work life?
With me being a single mom, it truly is a very difficult situation. You are responsible for everything in the household and I have 3 little ones. So I try to work early morning, naptime and bedtime and then that gives me time to jump on the trampoline with the kids and take them to their activities.

Is anybody else super excited that it is the weekend!? I spent all day yesterday sporting off my new favorite Bee Happy Tee proudly stating how much I love love love the weekend. We have such a fun-filled weekend with the Easter holiday, family, a baby shower, and so much more. I just am so excited that it is the weekend!

This comfy 3/4-sleeve shirt is SO light and cute! It is breathable so really it can be worn throughout the summer and into the fall as well. I just love shop owner, Erin’s, story. It is really why I adore highlighting these small shops with you. Erin took her story of sadness with her infant son’s death and created an outlet of happiness with her tee shirt shop. Her motto :: there is ALWAYS something to be happy about, and she absolutely loves wearing shirts that make her smile. She love to spread good vibes, hopes that folks remember to always be thankful for today, and stay positive! Why would you not just want to support a shop owner with that message??

Additionally, her shop is filled with screen printed tees (which are done in her hometown — another way that she supports local!). These tees all are full of happiness and such cute designs! I just love her “mom life” tee as well. And something else? Julie has offer you 20% off any of her products in her shop with the code “BEEHAPPY“! The coupon expires soon so don’t wait!

Here is a little bit more about Julie, the owner of Bee Happy Tee:

How did you get your shop started?
After I lost my four month old son, Gus in June 2016 to SIDS, I knew that my life had totally changed. I had a hard working friend that I worked with at the hair salon named, Erin. I sat down with Erin and told her that I would love to have an Etsy shop that sold Inspirational Tees and Tanks. We put our minds together and came up with Bee Happy Tee. I know that I can speak for the both of us and say that we are SO glad we did it!

What is the hardest part of owning a shop?
Erin and I have different work schedules so sometimes it makes it hard to communicate about things. But we get it done with a lot of text messaging and e-mailing.

What is one thing unique about you?
We are both very goal driven and over achievers.

What is the best part of owning a shop?
Being able to use our imagination and having a finished product that WE have created. The creation from start to finish is pretty awesome and we really have fun with it.

How did you get your shop name?
Bee Happy Tee. It truly brings me happiness when I see what we have done with turning the death of my son around. I think of him EVERY time we create something new and get positive feedback from our customers!

What is one way that you keep organized?
Planners, Calendars & Laptops. But Etsy really helps us stay on track with inventory.

How do you balance family life and work life?
Balance – that is something we both have always struggled with. But at the end you just have to get it done. If we want to succeed we have to find a way to make it work. We are extremely grateful to have one another, which makes it easier in the long run. Not all of the work is dropped on one person and we are able to have more family time because of that.

Shop Small :: Three Sweet Petites

I said just this just a few weeks ago, but I do not share the benefits of essential oils to y’all enough. We have been tackling the flu in our home over the past week and our essential oils have came in such handy! I was laying on what felt like my death bed last weekend just thinking about all of the ways I could be spreading the love to y’all through this blog.

Now enter this lovely and adorable Small Shop into my life, Three Sweet Petites! Owner, Darlene, began creating bath products after learning about the numerous benefits of essential oils. Knowledge is power, she thought, especially when we consider what we put into and onto our bodies. So all of her beauty products are handmade to order with pure, therapeutic grade essential oils, organic herbs, salts, oils, flowers, and items you can find in any kitchen pantry. She also does not use any artificial fragrances, chemicals, or dyes! Her jewelry is hand-crafted with love and intention to promote the benefits of essential oil use. Darlene uses precious gemstones along with lava beads to allow for hours of aromatherapy.

During my family’s attempt to not share the flu with one another (thankfully Ollie stayed clear of it all), I wore my essential oil diffusing necklace throughout the week. It’s so adorable and cute anytime of the day; however, it was a necessity to keep enjoying the benefits of the aromatherapy so close at hand.

It is the perfect gift to a new momma in need of some good relaxation (with some lavender oils) or any gal really and you should definitely check out her shop over on Etsy. Use the code “SPRING10” will get you 10% off any purchase!

Here is a little bit more about Darlene, the owner of Three Sweet Petites:

How did you get your shop started?
When I had my first daughter, I had a difficult time finding natural products I trusted to use on her sensitive skin. I began whipping up soaps and skin care products using essential oils and bath bombs were a special treat. I have always been an avid crafter and have been making jewelry for my friends and family for many years. Oil diffusing jewelry was a natural progression and the perfect compliment to my oily life! After a few nudges from my husband, I took the plunge and opened my shop.

What is the hardest part of owning a shop?
The hardest part of owning a shop is making everyone happy: My family, my customers, my friends, and most of all, me! I have learned it is ok to make mistakes and to allow myself to take a break when needed. Every mistake is an opportunity for growth- as a shop owner and as a mom!

What is one thing unique about you?
One unique thing about me is I am also a licensed clinical social worker. I am always encouraging my clients to incorporate self-care into their daily routine- it is so important for a healthy state of mind. My products are all made with relaxation as the ultimate goal.

What is the best part of owning a shop?
The best part of owning a shop is delivering happiness in a box! I love knowing whoever opens my package will be happy and be taking a little time for themselves.

How did you get your shop name?
My shop is named after my three, sweet daughters- although they are not all petite anymore! They inspire everything I do and naming my shop after them was the least I could do!

What is one way that you keep organized?
Spreadsheets are my life!! I also clean my workspace before leaving it- every time!

How do you balance family life and work life?
I am blessed to have a very supportive husband and kids who sleep late in the mornings! I do not think any of us have it all figured out though… I look like a wind swept animal most days, but who doesn’t?

I think Mother Nature forgot it was springtime. Thankfully, Life Has Just Begun sent me this amazing hat that makes me think only of the beach and a nice frozen drink. I have been sitting in my office all week imagining myself sitting at the shoreside with a good book, a refreshing drink and the smell of the ocean and sunscreen with this custom embroidered “do not disturb” floppy sun hat. It truly says you are on vacation with nothing to worry about and boy have I needed that in my daily grind this week.

With summertime coming up quickly and our family vacation right around the corner, I could not wait for this adorable floppy hat to get to my house. The paper blend natural colored adult floppy hat is embroidered with black polyester thread and complete it with a black grosgrain ribbon. I am the type of person that could be poolside/shoreside every day, but it’s hard in the middle of the midwest. I plan on repping this hat however every chance I get. I love reading in the sun and the floppy bill is perfect for helping me relax all summer long!

Check out her shop for this amazing design and many others! They are perfect for spring and summer breaks, a girl’s weekend to the beach, bachelorette and wedding parties, and more!

Here is a little bit more about DJ, the owner of Life Has Just Begun:

How did you get your shop started?
Most people in my family never see the age of 60. It’s sad but true. I’m blessed to have had good health. When I turned 60 I celebrated in 5 different states. It truly was a big deal! The day after my birthday I sat at my computer trying to figure out “what’s next?” My friend asked what I wanted to do? Without a moment’s hesitation I responded, “ I want to start and embroidery business.” My son had an Etsy shop and he suggested that I set up a shop of my own. It was good advice!

What is the hardest part of owning a shop?
I try to put myself in the customer’s position. I know what it is like to see that one thing that “I gotta have” but realize that I should have ordered sooner. In my shop I try my best to make that dream come true, by rearranging jobs, schedules etc. The most difficult time is when I have to turn down that last minute job because I can’t make it work.

What is one thing unique about you?
I am a color blind female! Color blindness affects approximately 8% of men and only 0.5% of females. I think that qualifies as unique!

What is the best part of owning a shop?
The hardest part is not being able to make a dream come true. The BEST part is making that dream come true.

How did you get your shop name?
This goes back to the story of how my shop started. As I sat there after my 60th birthday, very clear that I wanted to start an embroidery business, my biggest concern was what to call it? (I found out later I really had bigger concerns but I was naïve.) My friend suggested “Life Has Just Begun” because when I made it to 60 my life did just begin!

What is one way that you keep organized?
I’ve always been a very structured, organized person. I’m a Virgo. However in the last 15 months I’ve had 3 surgeries on my shoulders, 3 accounting jobs and moved my house and studio around. My organization skills have suffered. Separating and resetting my studio and my office has helped me regain that structure that I depend on. I have designed a better work flow. I’m not finished yet but it has improved.

How do you balance family life and work life?
Again I’m truly blessed. My son, daughter in law, and two grandkids and I all live in the same house. We have done this for 12 years now. We have two kitchens, two living rooms etc. and a great back yard. I have the benefit of being there everyday to watch my grandkids grow, yet I have my own office and studio separate from the family. We have supper together many nights and almost always on Sunday. It’s our time to just be us before the new crazy week begins.
